Research Navigator Privacy Notice
1. Introduction
This privacy notice explains how we collect and use your personal data when you use Research Navigator ("our site").
Dr Margaret Collins is the data controller. Our contact details are: email info@MargaretCollins.com, postal address PO Box 5157, Cardiff, CF5 9BB.
It is important that the information we hold about you is accurate and current. Please let us know if any of your details change.
2. What data we collect, and why
We may process the following categories of personal data about you:
Account Data: your name, email address, and login details, used to set up and manage your Membership. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
Payment Data: billing details processed on our behalf by our payment processor, Stripe, via Simplero. We do not store full card details ourselves. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
Usage Data: information about which Materials you access and how you use the site, used to understand what members find useful and to improve the library. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
Communication Data: any messages you send us, for example support queries. Lawful basis: legitimate interests / performance of a contract.
Marketing Data: your preferences about receiving updates from us. Lawful basis: consent, or legitimate interests where permitted by law.
We do not knowingly collect special category (sensitive) data through Research Navigator. If this changes — for example if you choose to share health or other sensitive information with us directly — we will only process it with your explicit consent.
We do not carry out automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.
3. How we collect your data
Mostly directly from you — when you register, log in, or contact us. We also receive technical data automatically through Simplero, the platform that hosts Research Navigator, and through any analytics tools we use on the site (see our Cookie Policy).
4. Marketing communications
We will only send you marketing emails where you have consented, or where you have purchased Membership and we are entitled to contact you about similar services under the "soft opt-in" rules in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. You can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by emailing us at info@MargaretCollins.com.
5. Who we share your data with
Simplero, the platform we use to run Research Navigator and process payments and communications.
Professional advisers such as our accountant, where necessary.
Government or regulatory bodies where we are required to by law.
We require any third party we share data with to keep it secure and to use it only for the purposes we specify.
6. International transfers
Some of the providers we use, including Simplero, are based in or transfer data to the United States. Where this happens, we rely on recognised safeguards, such as the UK–US Data Bridge (part of the EU–US Data Privacy Framework) or standard contractual clauses, to ensure your data continues to receive an appropriate level of protection.
7. Data security
We have put appropriate technical and organisational measures in place to protect your personal data against accidental loss, unauthorised access, alteration, or disclosure, and we have procedures for dealing with any suspected data breach.
8. Data retention
We keep your Account Data for as long as you remain a member, and for 12 months afterwards. We keep Payment Data for 6 years after the transaction, to meet our accounting and tax obligations. We keep Marketing Data until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to request that your data be moved to another provider. To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@MargaretCollins.com. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), though we would welcome the chance to address your concern directly first.
10. Cookies
Our site uses cookies. Details are in our separate Cookie Policy.
